Charlesworth pupils are 'Mayor for the day'

Date: 12/02/2009

Three pupils from Charlesworth School have experienced the prestigious role of High Peak Mayor.

Hannah Chilvers, Tommy Bennett and Samantha Bruce accompanied the High Peak Mayor, Councillor Robin Baldry, on his busy civic schedule around the Borough.

The children won their privileged places in a competition where they drew or painted a picture to promote healthy eating.

Hannah won the competition, and Tommy and Samantha were close runners-up.

The whistle-stop excursion included a visit to the Council's call centre at Buxton Town Hall, followed by a trip to Poole's Cavern.

After a tour of the Council Chamber at Chinley the Mayor's three special guests met up with Sharon McCambridge, Chief Executive of High Peak Community Housing for lunch.

Councillor Baldry said: "It was a pleasure to meet Hannah, Tommy and Samantha and show them how important the role of the Mayor is. The children were keen to learn about how the Council works and asked some interesting questions. It was a very worthwhile exercise for all of us."
