New beginning for Jewel in Buxton's Crown

Date: 13/02/2009

Six weeks of improvements at Pavilion Gardens ended on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, with the conclusion of the first phase of the £700,000 refurbishment project.

This first phase of the project has focussed on the modernisation of the old restaurant area, which re-opened as The Pavilion Café Buxton, with the new goal of catering for a much wider variety of customers, and families in particular. The Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Robin Baldry conducted the grand opening of the new area.

The menu boasts lots of innovative, new dishes but also keeps some old favourites, and has a huge emphasis on support for local produce. All meat and poultry used in the menu has been sourced from Derbyshire and the High Peak.

Visitors to the 23-acre gardens come for all sorts of reasons, be it tourism, business or recreation, but families are undoubtedly one of the main user groups. To cater for the valued family market, the new Café boasts a family-friendly zone, encompassing a small toddler play area, baby station with self serve microwave and bottle warmer, soft child-friendly seating and an extensive kid's menu that represents exceptional value for money.

Pavilion Gardens is one of the only food outlets in Buxton to provide such a child friendly facility. This means families can use the area without worrying that they may be encroaching on the experience of other diners using the main Café. This is a big selling point for The Pavilion Café over other similar outlets in the town and the team have received lots of positive feedback.

"We made great strides toward improving the service prior to closure for refurbishment in December last year, and this was recognised by the Pavilion Gardens gaining the accolade of High Peak Restaurant of the Month, voted for by readers of Pubs 'R' Down to Us Magazine," said Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration.

"Our new General Manager, Terry Crawford, has it as his goal to build on this platform by offering our customers an exciting family-friendly environment that looks and feels great, complemented by good service, good food and value for money. Thanks to his strong leadership, Terry has inspired the staff to raise our game in the Café yet again. I recommend that locals and visitors alike come down to the Pavilion Café to sample the new experience for themselves."

As an extra incentive, on presentation of this week's advertisement from the Buxton Advertiser, in The Pavilion Cafe, readers can enjoy a homemade dessert absolutely free (subject to terms and conditions). This offer is valid until Saturday 28 February 2009.
