A new bench for Buxton

Date: 17/02/2009

Councillors met to inspect Buxton's new bench in St John's Road on Wednesday, February 18, 2009.

The Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Robin Baldry; the Chairman of the Buxton Area Forum, Councillor Jonathan Davey; Councillor Linda Baldry and Councillor Tony Kemp posed for photographs by the new bench, which was funded through the Council's Going Local initiative.

Residents put forward the idea for a seat in St John's Road, during the Buxton Area Forum.

'Going Local' forms part of the Area Forum Programme covering the whole of the High Peak. Each forum area has an improvement fund of £10,000 for local, community led projects.

Councillor Robin Baldry said: "This is a welcome improvement. What a handy place to stop for a rest if you have been shopping, or to just sit and watch the world go by."

Councillor Jonathan Davey said: "The new bench shows how the Area Forums can help the community and improve the environment. If you have any ideas about how the Going Local fund could be used to help the community then please let us know."

The next Buxton Area Forum is at 7pm on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Paxton Suite, Pavilion Gardens. The agenda will include feedback from the Buxton town centre consultation sessions, and there will be a presentation about the library service.
