High Peak Borough Council is inviting adults of all ages and abilities to become more active with Jog Derbyshire.
Jog Derbyshire is a new countywide project which encourages people to become fitter and more active by starting to jog regularly with people of similar fitness levels.A network of community based jogging groups will guide anyone new to jogging -- or who has not run for a long time -- through a series of gentle walking and jogging programmes, led by a qualified leader.
The scheme is a regional initiative, delivered by Derbyshire Sport and supported by Sport England, Derbyshire County PCT, England Athletics and Derbyshire's Borough and District Local Authorities.
The first High Peak jogs will be held on:
Adults of all ages and abilities, who want to get fit and start jogging, are invited to turn up and report to the jog leader. They are advised to wear comfortable clothing and trainers. Each session will last between 40 and 60 minutes. There may be a small charge for facilities.
In addition to expert guidance, members will receive a logbook, e-newsletters, discounts and access to merchandise, such as. a Jog Derbyshire t-shirt.
Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development, said: "You don't have to be Paula Radcliffe to enjoy the benefits of jogging -- just willing to give it a go! Joining a Jog Derbyshire group is a great place to start getting fit for 2009 -- and the rest of your life. So don't be shy -- pop along and join in."
