Council publishes local shopping guide

Date: 14/07/2009

High Peak Borough Council has produced a new booklet that aims to put local shops firmly on the map.

Covering the borough's market towns, the Shopping Guide for Independent Retailers will tell visitors and residents alike where to buy goods including fresh produce, fine foods, confectionery and flowers.

Gifts, handcrafted jewellery, clothing, arts and crafts, books, leisure and outdoor equipment are also featured - along with where to get a beauty and spa treatment.

The guide will list independent retailers in Buxton, Castleton, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Glossop, New Mills, Whaley Bridge and the Hope Valley.

Tony Kemp, executive councillor for regeneration, said he hoped the publication would make residents and visitors alike aware of the wide range of specialist retailers to be found in our locality.

"We want to support independent traders in our towns and villages by attracting more visitors. We hope this guide will go some way toward encouraging people to take time out for a little retail therapy while they are exploring our beautiful High Peak scenery", he explained.

The guide will soon be available from tourist information centres throughout the High Peak. For more information, call Kate Kearns on 0845 129 7777 or send an e-mail to business@highpeak.gov.uk.
