Summer fun on menu for High Peak youngsters

Date: 23/07/2009

Holidaymaking schoolchildren have been promised a feast of summer fun at leisure centres and swimming pools across High Peak.

Badminton and tennis coaching are among the activities to be served up by the Borough Council and DC Leisure at Glossop Leisure Centre, along with street dance and cheerleading. What is more, there will be a Really Wild Show on Thursday, August 20. Other weekly activities at the venue will include football, gymnastics, arts and crafts, volleyball and dodgeball.

Glossop Pool and Buxton Spa Pool will offer aqua scooter sessions for eight year olds and above, plus canoeing, snorkelling and a giant pool inflatable. For good measure, the Buxton pool will also boast an Art Attack session for aspiring artists.

Activities at New Mills Leisure Centre will include canoeing, snorkelling and trampolining, as well as a Really Wild Show on Friday 21 August. Meanwhile, swimming for the under 17s remains free at all the High Peak pools.

Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "As in previous years, we have tried to offer a wide and varied programme for young people throughout the summer holidays. I am delighted that once again we have managed to do this with more events than ever before".
