Improved support for business start-ups in Glossop area

Date: 02/06/2009

Glossop-based entrepreneurs can now benefit from improved help and support thanks to an organisation that provides practical advice to business start-ups.

According to Derbyshire Enterprise Agency, a subsidiary of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, the current economic climate has seen increased demand for its services, with many people regarding redundancy as an opportunity to become self-employed.

In response, the Agency, which delivers the Business Link Start-up Service across Derbyshire, has announced it will be running a new series of business workshops in the town.

In addition, Business Link Start-Up adviser, Sue Scholes, will be based in Glossop for a day a week, working from the offices of High Peak Borough Council. Sue has many years' experience as a business adviser, working in rural communities to help people develop new sources of income through self-employment.

She has already helped dozens of businesses in the High Peak to get off the ground and Scott Knowles, DEA Director of Operations, said: "In Glossop we have seen a particular increase in demand for our services, and the town and surrounding villages boast a lot of talented individuals with some fantastic business ideas."

"We want to ensure people really understand what it takes to run a business, and equip them with the skills they need to make it a success. Sue is the ideal person to help them."

The next workshop, on business planning, will take place at the Gas Works, Arundel Street, Glossop on 11 June between 9.30am and 4.30pm. It will be followed by a further workshop covering sales and marketing on 24 June, whilst financial planning and ICT will be covered during future events.

Added Scott: "The workshop programme is free of charge and designed to cover all aspects of starting a new business, from researching your market to developing a business plan. What's more, through the office in Glossop, Sue will be available to offer new businesses ongoing help and advice throughout their first year of trading."
