A prominent Victorian clock in a High Peak town is to be out of action for around two weeks from next Thursday, 11 June.
The Borough Council's recent annual servicing of the four-dial clock outside Glossop Town Hall has revealed wear and tear that will stop the timepiece in its tracks unless some parts of the intricate mechanism are repaired.
Said council leader Tony Ashton: "The William Potts and Sons clock was made in 1897 and, while recent annual servicing has minimised its wear, it's not surprising that the clock now needs some extra TLC to keep it ticking.
"The clock is a much loved and useful part of Glossop's street scene, and we're determined to make sure it stays right on time for generations to come", he went on.
The specialist work will be carried out by renowned clock maker Smith of Derby and will cost £815 plus VAT.
