Pupils at All Saints Catholic Primary School are top grot-spotters and that's official.
The All Saints children won the accolade because they reported the most 'grot spots' (incidents of graffiti and litter) in their neighbourhood to the Council.
Five schools in Gamesley and Fairfield took part in the competition, which ran for 10 weeks. Pupils completed forms giving details about litter and graffiti that they had noticed and put them in a box placed at each school. Every 2 weeks the boxes were emptied and the information was passed to High Peak Borough Council's Clean Team to take action.
The other schools taking part were: Fairfield Infant School, Buxton, St Andrews Church of England School in Hadfield, St Marys Catholic Primary School, Glossop and Simmondley Primary School.
Over 130 forms were completed between the 5 schools.
All Saints School will receive £250 worth of sports equipment from High Peak Community Safety Partnership for being the top grot-spotters.
Teacher Julie Cullen, speaking for the Eco Committee at All Saints School, said, "We are delighted to have won this prize as we are very proud of our school and of Glossop. Everyone in the school took part and we hope we can encourage people to look after their environment."
John Haken, Executive Councillor for the Environment, said: "I would like thank all of the schools for their enthusiastic support of this project. The children did a terrific job of reporting incidents of litter and graffiti. The competition was valuable because it has raised their awareness to the unsightly nature of these environmental offences."
If people wish to report any graffiti, litter or fly-tipping they should contact High Peak Borough Council on 0845 129 77 77.
