Adults aged over 60 and children up to the age of 16 will be able to swim for free at any of High Peak's Pools from 1 April 2009 to March 2011.
The free swimming promotion is part of a Government-backed scheme to encourage people to adopt more healthy lifestyles.
To enjoy the free swimming offer, eligible adults and children are invited to register for their free swimming cards at their nearest High Peak pool.
Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development, said:
"Swimming is one of the best all-round forms of exercise, and is particularly good for people with mobility problems or those who wish to protect their joints - and it's great fun too. Allowing children and older adults to swim for free is an ideal way of encouraging them to lead healthier, more active lives.
"We are pleased to be able to offer this for the next two years. Whilst money is tight within the authority, we realise that it is for everyone. This initiative as well as promoting health will also save people a few extra pounds."
