HIGH Peak businesses look set to descend on Glossop next Monday (18 May 2009) for an event offering top tips on riding out the recession.
Staged by Business Link East Midlands and funded by the Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership (DDEP), the free seminar will help businesses of all sizes to survive and prosper during the current economic downturn.
High Peak Borough Council has urged businesses to snap up the few remaining places at the "Ride Out the Recession" workshop to be run at Bradbury Community House in Market Street, Glossop from 8.30am to 1pm on 18th May, followed by a free buffet.
Speaking about the seminar, the Borough's Executive Councillor for Regeneration Cllr Tony Kemp, said: "In these difficult times, business people in the north of the borough cannot spare time to attend events at the usual venues in Derby and Nottingham. I am also a board member of the DDEP and I know that organisation is keen to safeguard and promote local enterprise. I'm delighted that DDEP has been able to assist the borough's efforts to support High Peak businesses by providing funding for this event to take place."
"Much of our work in providing economic development services is made more effective by working in partnership with other organisations and this event is a prime example. We know how hard it is for local businesses to survive at present and I welcome any event like this as it can give real practical help to the local economy."
Featuring expert advice on business recovery, employment law, sales and marketing, the event will pinpoint measures that businesses can take to weather the storm and gain a competitive edge.
The session follows hot on the heels of a similar event in Buxton last month when more than 40 High Peak businesses were represented.
Attendees included Chris Howarth, from High Peak Environmental Services, who urged fellow employers to sign up for the Glossop event. He praised the event, saying: "I came away with some really useful tips on marketing, e-technology and managing cash flow, as well as an excellent overview of current employment law".
With most places now booked, anyone wishing to attend should call Business Link on 0845 058 6644 or send an e-mail to events@businesslinkem.co.uk.
Businesses unable to attend can check for forthcoming events on the Council's website www.highpeak.gov.uk/business where we will post relevant workshops, seminars and training opportunities when we know about them. The Business section of our website also provides helpful links to support agencies in the area.
