Council backs home coming parade for Wembley soccer stars

HIGH Peak Borough Council has pulled out all the stops to ensure that Glossop North End FC has a heroes' welcome following its remarkable run to the FA Vase final at Wembley.

In an evenly contested encounter, the Hillmen were undone by two goals in a nine-minute spell during the first half of the showpiece clash with Whitley Bay on Sunday (10 May).

But heads will be held high on Saturday (16 May) for a home coming parade organised by the council with High Peak Radio. Leaving the North End football ground at 2pm, the team will be cheered on as it travels in an open-top bus along the A57 to Norfolk Square, arriving at around 2.20pm.

There the players will be joined on the bus by High Peak Radio and borough Deputy Mayor Cynthia Mitchell.

The Wembley wonders will then attend a private civic reception at Bradbury House, Market Street at approximately 3pm, when an official presentation will be made.

Said Cllr Mitchell: "I'm sure that North End's loyal fans will be joined by well wishers from across the borough to celebrate an incredible achievement that culminated in a dream trip to Wembley".

Sunday's showpiece final drew a crowd of 12,200, including more than 5,000 followers of the Hillmen.
