Get on Yer Bikes for Studio Cycling

Date: 18/05/2009

Virtual road racing burns 750 calories an hour!

FANCY racing uphill and down dale - without moving? Then head for Glossop Leisure Centre for a spot of high-energy studio cycling.

The virtual road-race cycling is the latest fitness craze to take the world by storm, and it works as well, with pedal pushers losing up to 750 calories an hour.

The beauty of studio cycling is that it suits everyone - even those who cannot ride a bike - as it allows participants to apply as much or as little resistance as they like. It is suitable for both men and women, and the leisure centre even has a crèche for busy parents.

Run by DC Leisure for High Peak Borough Council, the leisure centre is offering classes on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 10.15am, and on Mondays from 6pm. What's more, there will be a series of half-hour taster sessions on Saturday mornings.

Classes are free to gym members or £3.80 otherwise but would-be fitness fans should book in advance as the number of bikes is limited.

"Try studio cycling, it's a great way to keep fit and easier than riding a bike", urged DC Leisure marketing manager Aidan Hall.
