Date: 27/05/2009

Glossop Army Cadet HQ throws open doors

MASSAGE, multi sports and music making will be served up in a marvellous menu of mirth at Glossop on Saturday 6 June.

The free feast of fun for all the family, called Positive Activities Glossop, is being staged by High Peak Borough Council, NHS Tameside and Glossop, Glossop Volunteer Centre and others from 10am to 3pm in and around the Army Cadet Building, Fauvel Road in a bid to bring people together, promote healthy lifestyles and celebrate 25 years of National Volunteers Week.

Revellers of an energetic disposition will be able to bounce on trampolines, take part in a samba workshop or tackle a jungle run inflatable while those of an artistic persuasion can try their hand at face painting or music making. Other highlights will include a penalty shootout and skills training by Glossop North End FC ladies, plus massages and beauty treatments by Hayloft Day Spa and Fitness.

Borough Mayor Tony Bingham will set the civic seal on the celebration at 1.45pm by making presentations to Glossop citizens who have been serving their community as volunteers for 25 years.

A whole host of freebies on the day will include bottled water from Buxton Water, milk and orange juice from Dairy Crest Stockport, fruit from Glossop Adult Education, bags and balloons from NHS Tameside and Glossop, and a free raffle ticket for everyone who turns up.

The borough council and NHS Tameside and Glossop aside, other organisers include Glossop Leisure Centre, Gamesley Community Centre and Derbyshire County Council's Surestart team.
