A popular but outdated High Peak swimming baths is to close on Saturday 7 November for a much-needed facelift.
The first stage of the overhaul of Buxton Pool will run to next Easter, focusing on improvements to the pool hall and changing rooms as well as refitting of plant and machinery.
The second phase will see the introduction of new health and fitness facilities including a gym and group exercise studio.
The pool is managed by DC Leisure for High Peak Borough Council, which has promised to keep customers updated on progress via the media and the council's website.
Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "We regret the inconvenience that the closure of Buxton Pool will cause but our consultation has shown that these improvements are what people want - and have a right to expect in the 21st Century.
"While the improvements take place, the Glossop and New Mills Pools will remain open, of course", he pointed out.
