From Monday 1 December , young people will be able to use a string of facilities at two High Peak leisure centres absolutely free!
The latest offer from High Peak Borough Council and DC Leisure means that children aged eight to 16 can use any unbooked squash, badminton, table tennis, short tennis, basketball or five-a-side football court at the Glossop and New Mills centres for up to two hours completely free!
And the offer applies at the weekends as well as during the week.
Youngsters need to register for the scheme, after which they will be given a membership card to produce for each session.
Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "Our leisure centre facilities are normally being used by paying customers but there are times when they lie empty. I often get asked about things for young people to do so, instead of these facilities lying idle, together with DC Leisure we have made them available at no cost to our younger residents.
"I am very excited about this and I think it is a brilliant scheme. The young people are there looking for entertainment and we have the facilities, so it looks a perfect match which I hope young people will take full advantage of. The free offer also underlines our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles", he pointed out.
Parents and guardians should note that the free sessions for young people are unsupervised and cannot be booked in advance.
