High Peak Borough Council is to join forces with HM Revenues and Customs to stage two workshops intended to throw light on the taxing issue of tax returns.
The first event will help participants understand the new Annual Investment Allowance plus the self-assessment Income Tax return, including which expenses can be claimed. Experts will take attendees through the process step by step as well as explaining how to register for Internet completion.
Free of charge, the course will run from 9.30am to 3pm on Tuesday 27 October and on Wednesday 13 January. The first date is just before the deadline for paper returns while the second is a few weeks before the deadline for Internet completion.
The second workshop is a three-hour introduction for people starting up their own business. It will highlight the main issues that fledgling business people need to consider, including tax and National Insurance.
Rated excellent by previous participants, the workshop will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Wednesday 4 November and again on Wednesday, 20 January for people whose resolution was to set up their own business.
Said Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration: "In many ways, entrepreneurs and small businesses are the bedrock of our local economy but it's easy to fall foul of the regulations when you're starting out. These workshops will help businesses to avoid the pitfalls".
To book on either workshop, please contact the council's customer services on 0845 129 77 77 or 01298 28400. Meanwhile, details of other free events for local employers are available from the council's website at www.highpeak.gov.uk/business.
