Buxton people to have say on play plans

Date: 06/10/2009

Leisure officials will be in Buxton town centre on Saturday 17 October to seek shoppers' views on plans for new play facilities.

Officers from High Peak Borough Council will be inside Spring Gardens Shopping Centre, next to Marks and Spencer, from 9am to 1pm to invite comment on proposals to spend Big Lottery funding on Brown Edge Road Play Area and Ashwood Park.

The consultation will then move to the Brown Edge Road play area from 2pm to 4pm.

The award of £20,000 for Brown Edge Road and £50,000 for Ashwood Park tennis court area followed the development of the council's play strategy, Playtime in the Peak, which identified priorities for improvement and built on last year's projects at Furness Vale and Hadfield, Glossop.

The funding is part of a £200,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund to improve play facilities across High Peak.

Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "The proposals on which we're now consulting respond in part to the findings of a questionnaire which we sent in April to people living near the Brown Edge Road play area. We're keen to ensure that the proposed play facilities meet community need and have public support".

Chapel-en-le-Frith and Wormhill Parish Councils will also benefit from £10,000 funding each later this year.
