Recession advice lined up for area forum

Date: 20/10/2009

High Peak residents worried about the impact of the recession have been urged to attend an advisory session on Wednesday 11 November.

The invitation was extended this week by the Borough Council, which has chosen Glossopdale Community College, Talbot Road site as the venue for a marketplace-style event offering advice on a wide range of housing, energy saving and benefits issues plus help with home security.

Topics covered will include the home options housing scheme, mortgage rescue, tenancy support, housing benefit and avoiding homelessness. Information will also be available on energy efficiency and the work of the Citizens' Advice Bureau.

In addition, people organising local public events bill be able to pick up tips on regulations, insurance, licensing, road closures and advertising.

The event will run from 7pm to 9pm as the highlight of the latest Glossopdale Area Forum, with refreshments available from 6.30pm when ward councillors will be available to discuss any matters on a one-to-one basis.

Said area forum chairman George Wharmby: "The council and other partner agencies have a range of services to help people through difficult times, and we're keen to let everyone know how to access them.

"We are also taking the opportunity to give information on organising local events as there's a lot of misunderstanding about what's expected so this is an opportunity to talk through the issues and get the correct advice", he explained.
