New Arrangements for Glossop Tourist Information

Date: 18/09/2009

Glossop's Tourist Information Centre (TIC) closed on Friday 18 September.

Following its closure, customers can obtain information at www.visitpeakdistrict.com or from the Buxton or Castleton TICs. Buxton TIC, in the Pavilion Gardens, St John's Road, can be reached on (01298) 25106 or by e-mail at tourism@highpeak.gov.uk.

Castleton Visitor Centre, in Buxton Road, can be contacted on (01629) 816558 or by e-mail at castleton@peakdistrict.gov.uk.

Basic information on the area can be found in the Town Hall, Glossop from Friday 25 September, and signs will be displayed in the Henry Street office letting customers know of alternative sources of information.

Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration at High Peak Borough Council, explained that the provision of information from the Town Hall was an interim measure while the council reviewed its visitor services over the next few months. He said the review would aim to attract more visitors to Glossopdale as well as provide information for those who were already there. The review would also recognise the fact that many prospective visitors now expected to be able to access information online.

Said Councillor Kemp: "The review will include wide consultation with interested parties to help us develop a vision to support the local economy. The council apologises for any inconvenience caused to visitors, local businesses and residents in the short term".
