New homes in your area - last week to comment

Date: 21/09/2009

Time is running out to comment on major new housing proposals affecting the Peak District - that is the message from Derbyshire Dales and High Peak Councils.

High Peak Borough Council and Derbyshire Dales District Council are asking local people for their views on the location of the 10,000 new homes that will have to be built in the area up to 2026. Both councils have published maps that show potential growth options in each of the main settlements - and the period for commenting on these options closes on Thursday 1 October .

"The East Midlands Regional Plan requires us to identify future housing areas in our Core Strategy" said Adrian Fisher, head of regeneration at High Peak.

"We have no choice about the numbers of homes that are planned - but we can choose where they are built - so that's why we're asking local people to pick the best locations.

Mike Hase, planning policy manager at Derbyshire Dales, said: "The new housing proposals potentially affect most of the major towns and villages in our area. New homes will provide for the needs of future generations - but also need to be carefully located to take account of infrastructure, community services and our fine landscape",

"That's why it's important that residents look at the maps and let us know what they think", he explained.

Copies of the consultation proposals can be found in all libraries, council offices and on the council's websites.
