Central Area Forum: coping with the recession, organising local events

Date: 22/09/2009

High Peak residents worried about the impact of the recession are being urged to attend an advisory session on Thursday 15 October.

The invitation was extended this week by the Borough Council, which has chosen New Mills School and Business Enterprise College as the venue for a marketplace-style event offering advice on a wide range of housing, energy saving and benefits issues together with information on home security.

Topics covered will include the home options housing scheme, mortgage rescue, tenancy support, Housing Benefit and avoiding homelessness. Information will also be available on energy efficiency and the work of the Citizens' Advice Bureau.

In addition, people organising local public events are invited to pick up tips on regulations, insurance, licensing, road closures and advertising.

The event will run from 7pm to 9pm as the highlight of the latest Central Area Forum, with refreshments available from 6.30pm when ward councillors will be available to discuss any matters on a one-to-one basis.

Said High Peak councillor and area forum chairman David Lomax: "The council and other organisation have a range of services to help people through difficult times, and we're keen to let everyone know how to access them.

"We're also taking the opportunity to speak to groups organising local events as there's a lot of misunderstanding about what's expected so this is an opportunity to talk through the issues and get the correct advice", he explained.
