A busy footpath to a railway station has been given a £7,000 facelift to make it more user friendly.
Derbyshire County Council has installed extra street lighting in Station Walk, Buxton while High Peak Borough Council has introduced a handrail and litter bin. The borough council has also weeded the path and removed lots of litter.
The improvements are good news for the many residents who use the path to get to Buxton Station without having to cross main roads.
The additional lighting was installed in the interests of the health and safety of the many pedestrians who use the path at night time and during the winter while the handrail, on a steep section of path, will benefit older users and those who are infirm.
The improvements were requested by local county councillor Pam Reddy and borough councillor Bill Barratt, both of whom had consulted residents on the improvements they wanted.
The county council provided £5,000 of the funding with the remainder coming from the borough council's Going Local Fund, set up to pay for small but important improvements to facilities in individual wards.
Jean Wharmby, the borough council's executive councillor for social and community development, said: "These improvements will make this well-used footpath far more welcoming, especially during the winter and on dark nights.
"The project underlines our commitment and that of the county council to listening to what people want and then taking action", she stressed.
