Scores of High Peak households are following the example of a Fairfield couple who will be keeping warm next winter while saving up to £800 on their fuel bill.
Retired Raymond and Brenda Hobdey, of Granby Road, struck gold by signing up to a Warmstreets scheme being run by the Borough Council and Apex Carbon Solutions.
The Hobdeys are among the 250-plus families to have benefited from free or discounted loft and cavity wall insulation since Warmstreets started earlier this year. Together, these households have already saved more than £30,000 on their fuel bills while reducing Co2 emissions across the borough by 160 tonnes.
Residents saying yes to Warmstreets will get a free insulation survey and advice on saving energy and cutting fuel costs in the home.
All private householders and tenants are eligible for a generous grant, requiring either no contribution towards insulation costs or as little as £99. The typical cost of the householder contribution for cavity wall insulation is just £149.
Said John Haken, Executive Councillor for the Environment: "With winter approaching once more, now's the time to sign up to a scheme that will get your loft and cavity walls insulated before the cold weather arrives.
"The Warmstreets energy efficiency campaign is part of our big push to help residents reduce energy bills, keep warm and shrink their carbon footprint", he explained.
Warmstreets surveyors are currently following up letters of introduction delivered to households across High Peak. However, householders wishing to book a free home energy survey in the meantime should call 0845 450 4967.
Householders concerned about the security of the survey should ask to see the surveyor's ID badge or, alternatively, call the council on 0845 129 7777.
