From cheese and chutney to preserves and pesto, there should be something for all when Glossop hosts the first in a series of regular local produce markets.
Starting on September 11, the Outdoor Market will be a hive of activity on the second Saturday of each month as specialist food and drink producers line up alongside craftspeople and regular outdoor traders.
The monthly produce markets have been introduced by High Peak Borough Council following the success of a trial Farmers' Market held on July 24 to launch the Council's new Glossop Guide for visitors and residents alike.
Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration, said: "Our trial market was really successful, with traders and shoppers alike asking us to do it again, so we've now lined up another four before the year end. The initiative also builds on and responds to the comments of local people who have contributed to our Glossop Design and Place Making Strategy workshops".
Intended to support and complement the impressive choice of independent retailers already in the town centre, the markets will sell high-quality goods including cakes, pies and locally-reared meats plus crafts and artwork.
Goods lined up for sale on the first market include cheese, eggs, pork, lamb, beef and wild boar, pesto, hummus, oils, cakes, chutney, preserves, knitted and glass items, silk-painted cards and handmade soaps.
With stalls being snapped up fast, prospective traders should reserve their space as soon as possible by calling Sarah Porru on 0845 129 7777 or sending an e-mail to sarah.porru@highpeak.gov.uk.
Other scheduled dates for the produce market are: October 9, November 13 and December 11.
The new guide showcases a wide range of attractions in and around Glossop, and is available from the Municipal Buildings and a string of town centre locations. It carries information on fine food producers, arts and crafts, and music and entertainment plus signposting of Glossop's heritage trails and the stunning Dark Peak landscape.
