People invited to take part in Whaley Bridge litter Picks

Date: 06/08/2010

People living in Whaley Bridge are being encouraged to get involved in two different community litter picks taking place in the town.

Organised by Whaley Bridge Amenity Society in partnership with High Peak Borough Council, the litter pick will help to support the three-month 'Keeping the High Peak Clean' campaign being staged by the Borough Council and Keep Britain Tidy (KBT).

During August, the initiative is focusing particularly on litter, with the Council and KBT both urging residents to "Get Behind Us" by taking their litter home with them.

Details of the litter picks:

Saturday, 14 August:

10am at Coachman's Lane (opposite Furness Vale Primary School Garden).

Sunday, 15 August:

10am at Canal Basin car park. Followed by litter pickers lunch (free) at Goyt Inn, Bridge Street at 12 noon.

John Haken, Executive Councillor for the Environment said: "We would like to invite residents to join the Society on the day to help keep Whaley Bridge clean and tidy. We invite people of all ages to come and join us, even if they can only spare half an hour.

Councillor John Pritchard, Chairman of Whaley Bridge Amenity Society added: "Whaley Bridge is a wonderful place to live and the local community are very proud of their town. Previous litter picks in other parts of the Borough have been very successful and well attended by residents. I would urge as many people as possible to get involved and help to keep our town a clean and pleasant place to live."
