Peak Dale Project is child's play!

Date: 08/02/2010

A five-week project to revitalise a busy but out of date play area near Buxton will start next Monday, 15 February.

The £60,000 transformation of Peak Dale Play Area is being funded by £50,000 secured by Wormhill Parish Council from Derbyshire Aggregates Levy Grant Scheme plus £10,000 awarded to High Peak Borough Council from the BIG Lottery Play Fund.

The scheme has been developed by the borough and parish councils in line with the findings of comprehensive public consultation that included a questionnaire delivered to all households, a drop-in community event and a presentation to the local primary school.

Said Andrew Bingham, the Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "This project will see a wide range of new equipment introduced for children and young people. The community told us what it wanted, and this is what we've delivered.

"Obviously, we regret that the play area will be closed while the work takes place but we're sure everyone will agree that the disruption was worthwhile when they see the new equipment.

"I would like to pay particular tribute to Wormhill Parish Council, which owns and manages the site, for securing the majority of the funding", he added.

An official opening of the new-look area will take place once the equipment is in place.
