Work started on Monday 15 February on the development of a skate park for the young people of Hadfield.
The state-of-the-art concrete facility on Newshaw Recreation Ground will be funded by a £40,000 Area Based Grant from Derbyshire County Council, and will take around three weeks to build.
The funding bid was tabled by High Peak Community Safety Partnership in consultation with the Borough Council, and the county council's Youth Service.
Said Andrew Bingham, the borough council's Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "This skate park will provide a much-needed facility for local youngsters. The project underlines our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and community safety by providing diversionary activities for young people.
"Our consultation told us that youngsters wanted this facility, and we have listened. These latest improvements follow hot on the heels of a complete refurbishment of the rec's play area for younger children, paid for by £30,000 we secured from the BIG Lottery as part of the council's Play Strategy", he pointed out.

An official opening ceremony will be organised once the skate park has been finished.
