An historic red brick wall in Glossop's Manor Park has been fenced off temporarily as a safety precaution.
A routine health and safety inspection of the Rose Garden Wall by High Peak Borough Council highlighted several maintenance issues, and the Council's parks team is now working with building engineers and a conservation specialist to assess the condition of the wall and draw up a specification for its repair. Once the specification has been signed off, the works will be put out to tender.
When the repairs have been completed, the neighbouring herbaceous border will be made good. Until then, the border will stay out of bounds to council gardeners and the public alike.
Said John Haken, Executive Councillor for the Environment: "We're committed to restoring this much-loved wall and border to their former glory. However, in the interests of public health and safety, the area will have to remain out of bounds until the work's been finished".
