With snow and ice continuing to affect High Peak on Monday (11 January), the Borough Council was collecting waste where it was safe to do so.
However, households whose green bin or green box has been missed should retrieve it from the kerbside and keep it in its normal location until the next scheduled collection date.
Residents whose black bin has been missed are asked to leave it at the kerbside for collection as soon as conditions allow.
Meanwhile, the council's parks and street cleaning teams worked under the direction of Derbyshire County Council, as highways authority, over the weekend to keep priority pavements gritted. This work will continue until the weather improves.
On Saturday 9 January, the borough council took delivery of 50 tonnes of salt and grit for use on pavements and pay-and-display car parks in Buxton and Glossop. More grit and salt have been ordered for delivery in the middle of the week.
High Peak and neighbouring Staffordshire Moorlands District Council were among the first district authorities to collect grit from the salt mines at Middlewich, Cheshire last week. By getting there early, the two councils avoided queues of up to four hours.
The borough council has spent £15,000 on extra equipment to be used by its own staff and the county council to keep roads and pavements clear. The equipment includes grit spreaders for the borough council's mini tractors plus an additional 4 x 4 quad bike with plough attachment and mini spreader. The equipment will arrive this week.
The borough's street cleaning team has also commandeered equipment from other departments. This has included tractors used by the countryside service.
