Council backs adventure sport project

Date: 13/01/2010

High Peak youngsters have been urged to discover their adventurous side with an exciting new adrenaline sports package.

The invitation was extended this week by the Borough Council, which has joined forces with a string of partners to offer schools and youth groups a chance to preview a series of adventure sport films as a taster to a programme of events.

Aimed at young people and families, the films will focus on skiing, mountain biking, climbing and other pulse-racing sports. The films are also a fanfare for the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival running from Friday 12 March to the following Sunday.

The films are available on DVDs that can be sent to schools, youth groups and film clubs.

Once involved in the project, the school or group in question can take part in adventure sports happening across the Peak District during the spring and summer.

Parents, teachers, youth workers or youngsters wanting more information should call (01663) 751608, send an e-mail to hayley@aitchelle.co.uk or visit www.shaff.co.uk/content/10/youth.

Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "These films are not only spectacular in their own right but are also a passport to a spring and summer full of adventure-packed sport. I'm delighted that the council is supporting this innovative approach to promoting healthy lifestyles".

Organised by Aitchelle Sports Development and Heason Events, the initiative is supported by the borough council, Derbyshire Dales District Council, Peak District National Park Authority, High Peak and Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnerships and Showroom Cinema.
