End of road for nuisance bikes

Date: 14/06/2010

Community safety workers have slammed the brakes on bikers endangering life and limb in some Buxton alleyways.

Fairfield residents complained to High Peak Community Safety Partnership that motorcyclists were using three alleys as a shortcut to neighbouring fields.

And one woman said that her son had nearly been knocked down by a biker riding at speed.

High Peak Community Housing responded by obtaining quotes for the installation of anti-bike barriers in Alsop Way, Cromford Lane and Cromford Place.

The Borough Council then approached Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, which agreed to fund all three barriers.

Said Jean Wharmby, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "Since the barriers were put in place early last month, there have been no calls about nuisance bikes.

"The installation of the barriers is a great example of partners working together to improve community safety", she added.
