On your marks for Sport Relief Mile

Date: 05/03/2010

Runners young and old will join forces in Pavilion Gardens, Buxton and Manor Park, Glossop on Sunday 21 March to help Comic Relief transform lives in the UK and in the world's poorest countries.

Scores of local people have already signed up alongside their friends, family and workmates to take part in the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile.

But High Peak Borough Council, which is organising the Buxton and Glossop runs, has now urged even more big-hearted runners to put their best foot forward for charity.

Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "It's fantastic that so many Buxton and Glossop people are gathering together to show their support for Sport Relief 2010.

"But we want this to be the best Sport Relief event yet so, if you haven't already done so, please sign up and raise some money for people in desperate need", he urged.

The fun starts at 10.30am with a one-mile run that will be followed by three and six milers at 11am.

There will be fairground rides for the youngsters plus an information market place staged by local sports clubs.

Councillor Bingham added: "From teeny tots with their mums and dads to super sprinters up against the clock, there'll be something for everyone on the big day.

"By getting sponsored to do the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile, you'll be helping make a big difference", he stressed.
