At least 48 hours prior to work starting Building Control must be given notification. This can be done by using the commencement notice provided with your approval or building notice form.

After the commencement inspection, you may be invoiced directly for a one-off inspection charge depending on the previous fee paid as laid out in the schedule of charges. This covers all further inspections made during building work.
Your application will expire if works have not commenced within three years of the date it was submitted.
Site inspections are carried out at statutorily notifiable stages and certain other key stages in the work. Use of the building notice procedure may require additional inspections. The full requirements are found in Regulation 15.

Your completion certificate is a valuable document to obtain, enabling you to proceed should you wish to sell your property at a future date. We are happy to supply this to you providing that:
At least 48 hours notice is required to carry out a completion inspection. As with notice of commencement, this can be done by returning the completion notice provided with your approval or building notice form.
You can also notify us by email at buildingcontrol@highpeak.gov.uk or book an inspection through out call centre.
To book an inspection please contact the call centre on 0845 129 77 77 / 01298 28400 and they will take your details and book you into the surveyor’s diary for a visit. In order to ensure the visit is correctly logged you will need to provide us with the application number for the project, this will usually start with either FP or BN. Inspection requests that do not have an application number quoted may not be done the same day.
If the request is not for the same day you can also send us an email at buildingcontrol@highpeak.gov.uk, again you need to include the reference number for the application relating to the work.
If the development work you are carrying out was the subject of a Planning Application please ensure that any conditions relating to the development have been discharged.
You should also note that if you are having construction or refurbishment work done, you may need to notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and you may have other duties as well – find out more. (external website**)
