Glossopdale Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI)

The Glossopdale THI - Background

Norfolk Square in Glossop

The process of bidding for funds from HLF, to support a Glossopdale THI, began in 2004 with the submission of a Stage I bid document to the HLF and included public consultation and stakeholder events to gain local support. Subsequently, a stage II bid was prepared and submitted to the HLF in November 2005 and was approved in early 2007. A number of conservation led projects are scheduled to start between June 2007 and March 2012 from a total common fund of £2.6 million, with £1.3 million coming directly from the HLF.

The Glossopdale THI has a fundamental role in delivering the Glossop Vision. The key aim of the THI is to promote the social and economic regeneration of the wider area through the enhancement and regeneration of key historic buildings in Glossop’s town centre. The THI will also directly contribute towards a number of the major public realm enhancement schemes that form part of the Glossop Vision Masterplan.

Through the partnership of several organisations and stakeholders, the THI scheme will continue the momentum created by the Glossop Vision. This will encourage the repair and re-use of the town’s historic buildings to ensure attractive, useable accommodation to encourage new businesses, new housing and new investment in the retail core.
