Key Projects

The key projects are:

A condition and structural survey was undertaken for all buildings, structures and features that make, or could make, a positive contribution to the overall historic character of the area, within the scope of the THI boundary.

A list of proposed works and estimated costs were identified for each project. From this, the THI key projects were determined.

Two buildings within the town centre have been identified as Critical Projects, under the THI scheme. This means that their repair and restoration is considered critical to the economic regeneration of the town and the delivery of the THI scheme and, as such, funds for these projects have been ring-fenced to ensure their successful delivery.

Glossop General Grants Scheme

Howard Town Mill

The THI general grant scheme sits under the umbrella of the Townscape Heritage Initiative and will primarily target commercial premises within the THI boundary and within the conservation area. The THI general grant scheme, jointly funded by High Peak Borough Council, Heritage Lottery Fund and Derbyshire County Council, aims to continue the exemplary repair or restoration work, previously carried out on commercial premises within the town centre.

The aim of the grant is to allow owners or occupiers of historic buildings to improve and enhance their shop fronts, windows, doors and signage in a traditional and sympathetic manner, either through repair of existing traditional features or reinstatement of historic architectural details.

This will allow individual businesses to create attractive frontages, and will further enhance the character of the conservation area. It can also have significant economic benefits.

The THI General Grant scheme budget is limited to £150,000 to be spent over a three-year period, starting in 2007-2008. More than 400 buildings have been identified as eligible within the THI Boundary.

However, we cannot possibly fund all these on a restricted budget. To ensure that the money is well spent, we have further identified 10 priority eligible buildings, which would benefit the most and would contribute to the successful delivery of the Glossopdale THI.

The following illustration maps out all the eligible buildings and the 10 identified priority buildings.

If we do not receive sufficient interest in the general grant scheme from the 10 priority buildings, the Council may consider extending the scheme to other identified eligible properties within the THI Boundary.

If your property has been identified as eligible and you would like to express an interest in this grant scheme, please complete the Expression of Interest form and submit it to the THI Project Officer, who will note your interest.

Due to a limited budget on this grant scheme, the Council cannot guarantee that all applications for grant assistance will be successful.
