Planning

The High Peak has some beautiful landscapes. Our market towns and villages have a rich heritage:

• Chapel-en-le-Frith,
• Glossop,
• New Mills, and
• Whaley Bridge,

High Peak Borough Council is responsible for balancing the need to promote housing and employment, while protecting the natural and built environment of our area for future generations. We promote good leisure and shopping facilities within our towns. Vital to our well-being are the plans to revitalise our market towns. We are actively working with local groups to support local services.

The Planning and Development Services of the Council

Building Control

• The Building Control service aims to ensure health and safety standards apply to building work, energy conservation provisions are attained and premises are fully accessible for use, through compliance with the Building Act 1984 and the associated Building Regulations.

Conservation

• Conservation is the Council's responsibility. This involves protecting buildings of special historical or architectural importance, and protecting and enhancing Conservation Areas, which are older areas with a special character.

Development Control

• The Development Control service is responsible for planning applications, complaints and enforcement, tree applications, planning appeals. Planning permission can be required for most building works and the use of land. Applications are assessed against Government Planning Guidance and policies in the High Peak Local Plan and Local Development Framework.
