People in Glossop have started to have their say on the town’s future regeneration in an innovative study being undertaken by High Peak Borough Council.
Specialist consultants have been appointed to arrange a series of workshops in which local groups and members of the public are being asked to put together a vision for the future development of the town and its surrounding area. To be known as the Glossop Design & Place Making Strategy, the workshops will lead to the preparation of a formal planning document that will enable the Council to shape the future character and appearance of the town.
In addition, the workshops will look in detail at the possible future development of some of Glossop's most iconic buildings, the Town Hall and Market Hall, as well as other key sites and issues. The process follows a similar one undertaken last year in Buxton that attracted over 350 people and which has since successfully lead to formal planning guidance being adopted.
The regeneration of Glossop is at a crucial stage given that the future development of some key sites and buildings such as the Town Hall and Market Hall, Woods Mill and Charlestown Works all need to be looked at together to ensure that they deliver the sort of town that the public want. This can only be achieved by working in partnership with the public so that the correct planning guidance can be put in place.
Two workshops have been held to date on 16th and 30th June and a final one is scheduled for 15th September. Prior to the final workshop, we are keen to hear your views on what has been discussed so far.
