High Peak's Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)

Planning policies and decisions taken on planning applications affect the lives of people living and working in High Peak. High Peak Borough Council wants to involve the community to find out what they want from the policies shaping their local area.

People like to be consulted in different ways. Some prefer letters or public meetings to tell them what's going on, others prefer to read about it in the local paper or on the web.

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) set out High Peak's commitment to community involvement in planning. It explains how people can let the Council know what they think about new planning policy and on planning applications, and how the Council will keep them involved on planning issues.

Adopted Statement of Community Involvement

The Council submitted the SCI to the Secretary of State for consideration in October 2005 and carried out a final six-week period of public consultation. An independent Inspector was appointed to consider the soundness of the SCI and any representations made. The Inspector’s binding report has now been published and can be viewed and downloaded by clicking on the link below.

The Council has amended the SCI in accordance with the Inspector’s recommendations and adopted the SCI on 25th May 2006. A copy of the adopted SCI can be viewed and downloaded by clicking on the appropriate link below.

The adopted SCI and Inspector’s Report are also available for inspection at main Council offices and libraries.

Pre-application consultations

The Statement of Community Involvement points out that the Council encourages pre-application discussions with all developers to consider issues relevant to the determination of a planning application, and these pre-application activities may include community consultation.

An advice note has been written, to provide developers and others with further details of the Council’s expectations concerning pre-application consultations, for various kinds of development proposals.
