
SPDs are Local Development Documents that give additional guidance on matters covered by Development Plan Documents, similar to the former Supplementary Planning Guidance. They do not form part of the Development Plan.
This Supplementary Planning Document has been prepared to accompany Policy H9 ‘Affordable Housing for Local Needs’ of the Adopted High Peak Local Plan (March 2005), and is intended to provide guidance for its correct application, clarification of the policy wording and to promote consistency of decision-making.
High Peak Borough Council has worked with the public to put together a strategy to provide a clear vision for how Buxton’s town centre will look as it continues to change and agree a set of design principles to guide and manage future change. An innovative, workshop-based approach was used in putting together the strategy so as to ensure that as many interested parties had their say in the final document. The document expands upon and supplements the following saved policies in the Development Plan insofar as they relate to Buxton:

The design framework sets out a vision for the study area as a vibrant and sustainable new quarter of Buxton. The overall aim is to arrive at an agreed design framework for the future development of the land around Station Road.
The whole of the area, which is the subject of the design framework, lies within the Buxton Central Regeneration Area, under which the High Peak Local Plan (adopted in March 2005) is affected.
These document expand upon and offer planning guidance, which supplements Policy TC 15 Regeneration areas in Buxton.
