Driven: Graduate Talent Internships

The University of Derby has support available to SMEs in the region to support them in attracting and retaining graduate talent.  Companies can access the University's expertise in graduate recruitment, as well as financial support, through two programmes; the Driven Talent Pool and the Graduate Internship Programme. 

The  Driven Talent Pool

The Driven Talent Pool is managed by the Employer Engagement team and is part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) to support SMEs to access and retain our student and graduate talent.

SMEs eligible for the programme are entitled to 80 hours work experience from a student or graduate of the University, and is fully funded by the University. Whilst there is no cost to eligible SMEs, the successful candidate will be paid £7.83 an hour through the University's Student Employment Agency (SEA).   There is no cost to the employer. 

  • Open to any student / course / year.
  • Advertised only on University jobs board. 
  • Interviewees to be selected by the University.
  • Fully funded through the University. 
  • Can use multiple times and access the Graduate Internship Programme too. 

Graduate Internship Programme

The Graduate Internship Programme is managed by the Employer Engagement team and is part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) to support SMEs to access and retain our student and graduate talent.

SMEs eligible for the programme are entitled to £1000 ESF funding for hiring a University of Derby graduate for a minimum 400 hour period over 3 months, paid at a minimum of £9.34 an hour (£18,213 per annum pro-rata).  

  • Open to final year students and graduates only.
  • University support with initial application and sifting. Support with interviews available. 
  • Subsidy paid once 400 hours has been completed. 
  • Can use multiple times and access The Talent Pool too. 
  • Can be a generated role or against a full-time, permanent graduate role

Eligibility

  • To qualify for the programme, organisations must:
  • Have fewer than 250 employees.
  • Be based in the D2N2 area.
  • Have not received more than €200,000 in aid over the last three years (further information is on the SME enrolment form).
  • Not be more than 25% owned by an enterprise that in itself is not an SME.
