Becoming HS2 Ready - Exploring the wide ranging opportunities that HS2 will bring to the region

This event is open to all potential supply chain organisations and will provide information on what is required of beneficiaries of the wide-ranging procurement opportunities that HS2 will bring.

It will aim to highlight that the opportunities do not just apply to the engineering and construction sectors, but much across a much wider portfolio*

HS2 is one of the most demanding and exciting transport mega-projects in Europe, there will be thousands of opportunities within the HS2 supply chain. These will be:

  • Created across many business sectors
  • Requiring a wide range of capabilities
  • Suitable for suppliers of all sizes
  • Generated over a number of years

They will need a wide range of works, goods and services to deliver the HS2 programme and associated supporting corporate opportunities. Examples of some of the opportunities that sit outside the expected larger civil engineering, railway systems, rolling stock are items such as:*Landscaping, Tree Surgery,Wildlife Habitat Relocation, Woodland Relocation, Telecoms, Site Offices,Site Compound External Works - access ways, hardstanding, fencing, signage, etc., Site Security - CCTV, Site Security - security guards / patrols, Scaffolding, Traffic Management, Site Clearance, Ground Investigation, Topographical Surveys, Traffic Surveys, Drone Surveys, Labour and Staff, Plant Hire, Aggregates, Ready Mixed Concrete, Ducts, Pipes, etc., Brickwork/blockwork, Builders' Merchants Materials, Traffic Management Materials, Occupational Health and Wellbeing, Pest Control, Specialist photography

 

On the day, the agenda will include:

  • A presentation from Robin Lapish, HS2 Supply Chain Team Lead - providing a clear view on the wide range of opportunities that HS2 will bring. Robin will dispel some of the myths about the range of opportunities available to SMEs, including detail of their procurement criteria. This will enable businesses to prepare well in advance, by aligning themselves to the requirements set by HS2, which will inevitably filter down the supply chain.

  • Meet the Expert Session - this will cover the main criterion highlighted in the HS2 Procurement Guide. These key criteria areas, applied during procurement and delivery, are set against the HS2 strategic goals and a number of criteria weighted to reflect the contract requirements. The key areas are as follows:
  • Sustainability, innovation and collaboration
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Health and Safety
  • Equality, Diversion and Inclusion (EDI)
  • Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Employment and Upskilling

There will be an opportunity to hear from experts in each of these fields with the opportunity to ask questions.

  • Finally there will be a presentation on best practice in relation to procurement and tendering, specifically aligned to the HS2 criteria. This will be delivered by Mark Lloyd MCIPS Of Promitheia Consulting, who will explore how your business can become equipped to tender for future HS2 opportunities. The presentation will provide practical advice and ideas to understand your current business issues and to improve your ability to bid.

In addition a number of support agencies will be on hand to provide help with any additional questions and assistance required.
