Where can I get extra compostable bags?

Compostable bags for food waste are now available to collect for households taking part in the food waste recycling trial.

We only have a limited amount of rolls left which have been supplied by Derbyshire County Council.

To get more bags please visit one of the following locations - rolls are limited to one per person to try and make sure we have enough to go round.

  • Glossop Municipal Building
  • Gamesley Library, Gamesley Primary School
  • Hadfield Library, Station Road
    Buxton Town Hall
  • Buxton Library, Kent Road
  • Buxton Sure Start and Resident's Association, Victoria Park Road

The supply of compostable bags we delivered as part of the food recycling trial provided one bag per week for the year.

Suitable compostable caddy liners can be bought from supermarkets including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose, Aldi and Co Op should you run out before.

If you buy your own liners you must make sure they are compostable (not biodegradable) and show the EN13432 code and compostable  "seed logo" [133KB] .

However ...

You don't have to buy extra bags.
Food waste does not have to be contained in a compostable bag to be recycled. You can continue to recycle your food waste by putting the material straight in to your green lidded bin loose.

Bags not to use

Please do not use plastic bags. Plastic of any kind will not break down in the composting process and means the soil improver cannot be used on local fields. If we see any plastic in your green lidded bin we will not empty it as this will contaminate the collection load.
