Grow-ahead for Glossop allotmenteers at new sites

Keen allotmenteers in Glossop have been given the green light to get growing as two new sites open their gates to residents who have been patiently waiting to get their hands dirty.

To address the high demand for sites, High Peak Borough Council has worked in partnership with GAFA (Glossopdale Action for Allotments) to develop the sites off Dinting Lane and Melandra Castle Road.

Councillor John Haken, Executive Councillor for Operational Services, said: "It's great news that these sites are now open and I hope the people who have waited patiently for a plot will now be able to fully enjoy the fruits of their labours.

"We know that demand for sites was high in the area and we've addressed that through our allotment strategy. The development of these sites is the result of the hard work and perseverance of GAFA, the current and previous Councils and local Councillors Anthony McKeown and Graham Oakley. I'd like to thank everyone involved for helping bring these new sites into use and wish all those who have been allocated plots every success."

The sites are leased and managed by GAFA who have worked closely with the people on the waiting lists to put in place governance arrangements for the management of the sites and to allocate the plots.
