Council Tax Support Fund 2023-24

Having recognised the impact of rising bills, the government is distributing £100 million of new grant funding in 2023-24 for local authorities to support economically vulnerable households in their area with Council Tax bills. Local authorities will use most of their funding allocations to reduce Council Tax bills for current working age and pension age Local Council Tax Support (LCTS) claimants by up to £25. The remaining fund will then be used to further support vulnerable households with Council Tax bills.

In April this year, the Council reduced the amount of council tax payable for 1,661 of its residents.

In order to further support economically vulnerable households, the Council has awarded additional funding of up to £25 to 1,936 residents during August. As a result, some claimants have now received up to £50 in support.

If you are in receipt of Local Council Tax Support there is no need for you to contact us as the reduction will be automatically applied to your Council tax bill for 2023-24, if there is a balance outstanding on the account. This page will be updated with further information on the scheme as soon as it is available.

More information can be found on the Government website.

Council Tax Reduction Scheme

From the 1st April 2023 we have introduced a banding scheme for working aged customers.

The aim of the new scheme is to make the amount of support customers receive more stable month-to-month. The scheme also offers those on the lowest incomes up to 100% discount on their council tax bill.

If your council tax support drops as a result of the new scheme and you are facing exceptional financial hardship as a result, you will be able to apply to our exceptional hardship fund.
