Potential candidates briefing session - Wednesday 1 March 2023

If you are considering becoming a candidate in these elections, this session is an invaluable guide to the process. Details regarding the nomination process, and other matters, will be explained.

The briefing will be delivered in person in the Octagon lounge, Pavilion Gardens, St Johns Road, Buxton SK17 6BE or online via Teams at 6.00pm on Wednesday 1 March 2023. We will need an email address for anyone wishing to attend via Teams.

Email elections@highpeak.gov.uk for more information.

Voter ID

The UK Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station. This new requirement will apply for the first time in England at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023. This includes the next scheduled election for High Peak Borough Council.

How to vote in person

A Poll card for each member of the household who is registered to vote will be delivered before the election. The Poll card will tell you the date of the Election, where your Polling Station is and the hours it will be open. You do not need to take your Poll card with you to be able to vote.

  • From 4 May 2023, you will need to show photo ID to vote. Staff will check that they are happy that it's acceptable. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.
  • A list of accepted ID and details of how to apply for the free ID is available on the Electoral Commission's website.
  • From 16 January 2023, anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID will be able to apply for free ID online or by completing a paper form.
