Rural rate relief
You could get rural rate relief if your business is in a rural area with a population below 3,000.
From 1 April 2024, if you meet the criteria shown below, the amount of relief awarded will be 100%. The qualifying categories are:
- the only village shop, post office or general store, with a rateable value of up to £8,500
- the only public house or petrol station, with a rateable value of up to £12,500
When we can award a further discount
If we feel that the business is of benefit to the community and in the interests of its council tax payers we may also give relief of up to 100% to other rural retail businesses for properties with a rateable value under £16,500.
