MyActive New Mills Leisure Centre Redevelopment
Information about the capital investment project for MyActive New Mills (formally New Mills Leisure Centre)
We are investing around £3.5m in a major upgrade of the leisure centre in New Mills. The plans have been drawn up by architects and specialist contractors and include modifications as a result of public consultation.
The redevelopment
Fitness Gym
The existing gym space will double in size to increase capacity and improve customer experience, particularly at peak times. To help meet local demand, this larger space will include a premium range of cardiovascular, pin-loaded and plate-loaded equipment.
The enhanced gym space will include new flooring, feature lighting and modern wall graphics, to give a modern and vibrant look and feel to the space.
Group Exercise Studio
A brand new, 25-person first floor group exercise studio above the extended gym will host an enhanced range of activities and group exercise classes. Creating this new space will also free up additional capacity in the sports hall which will help provide more activities or allow existing clubs to expand.
This welcoming studio will have the latest class equipment and a modern look and feel. A platform lift will be installed in addition to the existing staircase to connect the two floors and improve accessibility.
Group Cycling Studio
The existing group cycling studio will be transformed into an immersive space including 20 of the latest bikes, modern audio/visual technology, lighting and decoration. The new space will be completely refurbished and equipped with the latest technology, widening the offer to include both instructor-led and interactive classes.
Active Wellbeing Suite
The existing small studio will be converted to create a dedicated active wellbeing suite with 10 stations. This space will be dedicated to engaging people who may not have the confidence to access a mainstream gym, such as people recovering from illness or injury or suffering from a long-term health condition, or they may have been referred for exercise by their GP or health professional.
Services provided from this space will increase opportunities to a wider range of residents and help reduce health inequalities. There will be new and bespoke equipment tailored to meeting these specific needs, along with welcoming decor and a place to confidentially discuss your requirements.
Pool viewing area
This area will be refurbished with enhanced seating options.

Public Involvement
Consultation has taken place with user groups, councillors and the wider public. Public consultation on the possible options for investment took place between the end of November 2024 and January 2025. Over 650 people completed an online survey and shared their views at an extremely well attended public meeting at New Mills Town Hall in early December 2025.
Next steps
A planning application is due to be submitted and the public will be able to comment on the plans. We will include a link on this page to the application when it is added to our website.
