Waste collection changes

Information on the Weekly Food Waste Collections starting later this year.

Weekly Food Waste Collections - Coming Soon

The launch of this service is part of the government Simpler Recycling initiative and roll out of this is funded by the Department of Environmental, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Food waste still makes up a significant portion of the household rubbish we collect, and by collecting it separately each week, we believe we can reduce the amount not being recycled and turn more of your leftovers into something useful such as nutrient-rich compost.

What's Changing?

  • Every household will receive a kitchen caddy, a larger outdoor food waste caddy, a roll of compostable liners and instructions on how to use the service.
  • You'll simply line your kitchen caddy, fill it with unavoidable food scraps, and empty it into your outdoor food caddy and then put it out weekly for collection.

You will no longer be able to put food waste in your green lidded bin with your garden waste.

What you will be able to put in your Food Waste Caddy

  • Fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Plate scrapings and leftovers
  • Meat and fish (cooked or raw)
  • Egg shells, tea bags, and coffee grounds
  • Bread, rice and pasta
  • Dairy products

If it's food, it can go in your food waste caddy.

Further information about the delivery of your new caddies and the start of collections will be provided soon.
