Private hire operators licence
If you plan to operate a private hire taxi business, you will need to comply with the councils taxi policy requirements.
Anyone who operates a private hire service must apply to the Authority for a private hire operator's licence. "Operate" means to make provision for the invitation or acceptance of bookings for private hire vehicles during business. (Persons who take bookings for and then dispatch hackney carriages do not require private hire operator's licences):
The objective in licensing private hire operators is ensuring the safety of the public, who will be using operators' premises, vehicles and drivers arranged through them.
It is an offence to drive, or employ someone to drive, a hackney carriage or private hire vehicle in the borough without a licence issued by the council.
Who can apply for a licence?
An Operator application can be made under an individual/ Individuals OR under a registered business.
AN Operator Must:
- Show that they are a fit and proper person
- If the applicant is an individual, the applicant must not be disqualified by reason of the applicants immigration status from operating a private hire vehicle.
- Be based within the authority area.
It is an offence to mislead the council by giving us false information.
